Senior Joint Secretary of National Nagorik Party (NCP), Dr. Tasnim Jara, has raised concerns regarding the massive convoy that accompanied party leader Sarjis Alam to his home district of Panchagarh.
She expressed hope that Sarjis Alam would provide a transparent and acceptable explanation to the public, reinforcing the party’s commitment to accountability and integrity.
Dr. Jara, a physician by profession, made this statement in a verified Facebook post on Tuesday evening, addressing Sarjis Alam directly.
According to reports, Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the NCP, traveled from Dhaka to Syedpur by air on Monday. From there, he proceeded to Debiganj by road before embarking on a high-profile tour across the districts of Boda, Panchagarh Sadar, Tetulia, and Atwari—his home upazila—accompanied by over a hundred vehicles.
As this was his first visit home after securing a key position in the newly formed political party, the grand scale of his entrance has sparked debate in political circles. Even BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has questioned the event.
In her Facebook post, Tasnim Jara directly addressed Sarjis Alam, expressing her concerns as a fellow political activist and a proponent of transparency within the party.
She reminded Sarjis that not long ago, he had publicly stated, "I actually don’t have any money right now. I’m surviving on borrowed funds. That’s the reality. I don’t even carry a wallet." His modest lifestyle and financial struggles had resonated with many, reinforcing NCP’s image as a party advocating for a new, honest political culture.
However, she questioned how such a large and expensive convoy was possible under those circumstances. The public, she argued, has the right to know the sources of funding and logistics behind this massive show of strength.
Tasnim Jara emphasized that NCP is committed to transparency, integrity, and accountability, and therefore, providing a clear and credible explanation is crucial to maintaining public trust.
She concluded her letter by urging Sarjis Alam to address the matter sincerely, stating that a well-explained response would strengthen the party’s credibility among the people.
