Former Dhaka-7 MP Solaiman Selim and former Chawkbazar Awami League president Haji Sirajul Islam Rado have been sent to jail following the completion of their remand in connection with the murder of madrasa student Shahenur Rahman during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan on Tuesday rejected their bail petitions and ordered their detention. The case's investigating officer, PBI Sub-Inspector Kabir Hossain, presented them in court after Selim's three-day and Rado's four-day remand, requesting their continued detention.

Defence lawyer Shri Prananath sought bail for the accused, but the court denied the request.

According to the case details, on August 6 last year, a victory rally was held at Beribadh in Lalbagh following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's departure amid protests.
