Dear Sir
Plastic pollution is one of the most alarming environmental crises worldwide, significantly affecting coastal regions like Chattogram. Every day, massive amounts of plastic waste are generated from markets, restaurants, shopping malls, and households. This waste accumulates in the Karnaphuli River, Patenga Beach, and nearby canals, leading to waterlogging and severely harming biodiversity.
Improper disposal of single-use plastic bags, bottles, wrappers, and foam products contributes to the infiltration of microplastics into the food chain, posing serious health risks for humans. To combat plastic pollution, effective waste management, the use of recyclable and eco-friendly materials, and strict law enforcement are essential. Despite various initiatives by the Chattogram City Corporation and environmental organizations, the lack of public awareness remains a major obstacle. Encouraging the use of jute and paper bags instead of plastic, promoting plastic recycling, and organizing regular river and coastal cleanup activities are crucial steps toward reducing pollution.
If governmental and non-governmental efforts are well-coordinated, plastic pollution can be effectively controlled. This will not only ensure environmental protection for Chattogram but also benefit the entire country, positively impacting biodiversity and public health.
