Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Junaid Saki has called for the trial of Awami League as a party, even if it requires enacting new laws. He also demanded the prosecution of those involved in genocidal acts and fascism, along with their accomplices.
Speaking at an Iftar gathering in Mymensingh on Monday, Saki criticized attempts to claim sole credit for the mass uprising, stating that such efforts are creating divisions within the movement.
"A tug-of-war is ongoing over who gets credit for the mass uprising—one group wants to claim it all for themselves. After August 5, fascist-style tactics are being used to divide people. This will only help the old fascists return. Those responsible for creating these divisions must be recognized as enemies," he asserted.
Saki also emphasized the need for a constitutional reform council to amend the constitution, warning against actions that could disrupt national unity.
"Some are focusing only on reforms, while others are talking about elections. But the original understanding was that both reforms and elections would take place together," he noted.
The event was presided over by Mostafizur Rahman Rajib, convenor of Ganosamhati Andolon’s Mymensingh district unit. Other speakers included Rukunuzzaman Rokon, member secretary of BNP's southern district unit, Abul Hasan Rubel, executive coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, and Hatem Rana, member secretary of Nagorik Oikya’s district unit. Leaders from Gono Odhikar Parishad, including Rahat Jahan Hossain, Ali Yusuf, and Abul Kalam Al Azad, also spoke at the event.
Saki’s remarks reflect ongoing political tensions and the growing call for legal accountability and constitutional reforms in Bangladesh.
