Ferry opens on Ctg-Sandwip route, carrying 6 advisers across sea

Ferry services on the Chittagong-Sandwip route have opened for the first time.

Six advisers of the interim government inaugurated the ferry service at Sitakunda's Bashbaria Jetty at 8:30AM on Monday.

This is the first ferry service on a maritime route in the country. Brig Gen (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain inaugurated the service.
M Fouzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Ministry of Road Transport, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Bridges, Environment, Forest, Climate Change and Water Resources Advisor, Faruk E Azam, advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Bidhan Roy Podder, advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and Farida Akhter, advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock also attending the event.
A rally is scheduled to be held on the Sandwip upazila parishad premises where Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus will joined virtually.

The ferry route will answer the demands of the 4,00,000 natives of the island Sandwip upazila, which now has a direct connection to the mainland.

Md Kamruzzaman, Deputy Director of BIWTA Chittagong, said that each ferry can transport 35 vehicles and 600 passengers at a time.

The ferry will operate four times a day, depending on the tides, with the journey from Chittagong to Sandwip taking just one hour and 10 minutes.

In addition to the ferry service, a BRTC bus service has been launched on the Dhaka-Sandwip route.
