The government has dissolved the executive committee of Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) and appointed a new administrator to restore order.

Nargis Murshida, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, took charge of the BCCCI on Sunday (23 March) 2025, according to an order by the Commerce Ministry issued on 16 March 2025.

The Ministry of Commerce made the decision on Sunday following widespread unrest among general members and allegations of mismanagement. Nargis Murshida has been appointed to take charge of the chamber and organize a fresh election within 120 days, according to official source.

The removal of the executive committee came after repeated complaints from chamber members regarding its inefficiency and failure to coordinate activities. The committee's inability to provide a satisfactory explanation for its various shortcomings further hasten the government's decision.

The Ministry of Commerce, in an official statement said the chamber had lost operational discipline and was failing to function in alignment with the Trade Organization Act of 2022. The persistent instability and disorder in the organization compelled direct government intervention to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.

The newly appointed administrator has been directed to take immediate control and oversee all activities of the chamber. Her mandate includes stabilizing the chamber's operations, preventing further disruption, and conducting a transparent election to elect a new executive committee.

Upon completing the election process, she must formally transfer responsibilities to the newly elected leadership and submit a report to the government. The Ministry of Commerce has emphasized that any deviation from the legal framework governing trade organizations will not be tolerated.

The decision reflects the government's commitment to strengthening oversight in business associations and ensuring adherence to governance standards. Officials have circulated the directive to key institutions.

It includes Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Dhaka district administration, instructing them to monitor compliance.

The chamber's leadership crisis serves as a reminder that regulatory intervention will be enforced wherever necessary to maintain accountability and institutional integrity.
