Chief Adviser's Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, stated on Saturday that Prof Yunus Muhammad Yunus remarked, "We are still in a war-like situation. It is a war against disinformation and to put Bangladesh back on the global map."
After seven and a half months, the interim government has stabilised the country and set it back on the path of growth, he added. "But as (Chief Adviser) Prof Yunus Muhammad Yunus said, we are still in a war-like situation. It is a war against disinformation and to put Bangladesh back on the global map," he reiterated.
In a Facebook post, the Press Secretary also noted that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' unprecedented four-day visit reflected that they were on the right path. "But it is a long journey," he said.
Alam acknowledged that the law and order situation remains their "biggest challenge," though crime figures indicate that the situation "has not worsened" as much as portrayed in local media. "But it is understandable that people don't want us to compare figures with the Dictatorship era. Expectations are high. However, confidence among police officers is still low. Many urban middle-class women are worried about their safety," he observed.
The Press Secretary highlighted that attacks on Sufi shrines have declined sharply, though sporadic incidents persist. "More than 50 Hizb-ut Tahrir men have been arrested. But people want more success in our fight against extremism," he said.
Alam praised the Commerce Adviser's strategies to boost the supply of essential food items for Ramadan, which were achieved in a remarkable manner. "Inflation has been declining for three consecutive months. In February, it was the lowest in 22 months. Airlines and concerned authorities were instructed to reduce air ticket prices, especially for travel to Saudi Arabia, our largest manpower market," he said.
