Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC has announced a 10% reduction in the prices of all internet services, aiming to make internet access more affordable for consumers. The decision was finalized at the company’s board meeting on Saturday.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Post, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, stated that the government is actively working to lower internet costs through various initiatives, including a reduction in wholesale prices.
"As a result of this decision, the price of all bandwidth at the international gateway level will be reduced by 10%," he confirmed.
Additionally, mobile operators will benefit from DWDM technology at the backbone level, leading to a 39% reduction in telecom companies’ transmission costs. Taiyeb noted that discussions with telecom operators have already taken place, and consumers can expect internet prices to decrease by up to 10% in the coming days.
Looking ahead, he also announced that Bangladesh will be connected to its third submarine cable, SIMUE-6, by mid-2026, further strengthening the country’s internet infrastructure.
