Police arrested an Awami League leader on charges of raping an expatriate's wife in Kishoreganj's Bhairab.
He was arrested from his home at Srinagar village of the upazila on Saturday (March 22) night.
The arrested Zakir Hossain is the organizing secretary of Srinagar Union Awami League.
According to police and locals, Zakir Hossain had been having a physical relationship with the wife of an expatriate from Srinagar village of the upazila for a long time, trapping her in an affair. Later, when the matter came to light, the victim woman pressured him to marry her. When the accused Zakir Hossain refused to marry her, the woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.
In this incident, the victim woman filed a case against Zakir Hossain with police station on Saturday. The police arrested him at night.
Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Fuad Ruhani said Awami League leader Zakir Hossain has been arrested on charges of raping the wife of an expatriate, a mother of five children. He was sent to Kishoreganj District Court on Sunday morning.
