Police arrested a man in connection with the killing of a rare fishing cat at Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district on Saturday.
The arrested man is Md Alamgir Hossain,30.
Police are trying to arrest two other suspects - Mintu and Saiful Islam, said Darsana Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shahid Titumir.
A video that went viral on social media platform Facebook showed three young men mercilessly beating the wild animal with spears.
According to local sources, three young men from Dhanyaghora village brutally killed the fishing cat near Manikdoya Road in Kurulgachhi Union around 5:30pm on Thursday.
The killing and the viral video sparked outrage among locals.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tithi Mitra said, "The killing of wildlife is a serious offense. Strict legal action will be taken against such acts of cruelty."
Upazila Forest Officer Mizanur Rahman said legal action will be taken against them under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
