Drug control is not achievable by any individual alone-it requires coordinated steps and a comprehensive action plan. Teachers and students from schools, colleges, and universities have a vital role to play in addressing this pressing issue.

These views were expressed at a discussion titled "What Do Youth Think," organised by Anti Drug Forum, the first university-based anti-drug organisation, at the Stamford University Bangladesh auditorium on Thursday.

Khorshed Chanchal, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, described drug addiction as a perilous disease of modern civilisation. He noted that while people are generally aware of the dangers of drugs, it is extremely challenging for individuals suffering from addiction to recover without support.

Reiterating the necessity for collective efforts, Chanchal added, "Drug control is not possible for any single entity. A comprehensive action plan is essential. Each individual must contribute from their own position-students, teachers, parents-everyone must act in a coordinated manner to achieve success."

Eti Laila Kazi, Assistant Professor in the Business Administration Department and Convener of the Drug Forum, highlighted the alarming grip of drugs on the younger generation. She stated, "Drugs are omnipresent, from cities to villages, from schools to universities, and their impact on social degradation is profound. With this in mind, we established this anti-drug organisation to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs." She also emphasised the urgency of addressing these issues to safeguard the nation's future.

During the event, students and teachers pledged their continued commitment to drug prevention efforts.

The programme was attended by Rumana Haque Rita, a member of the Board of Trustees of Stamford University Bangladesh; Registrar Muhammad Abdul Matin; and Acting Chairperson of the Law Department, Israt Jahan Eni.
