An internet trader came under an attack allegedly carried out by a person over refusing to pay extortion under sadar upazila in Savar early Friday.
The incident took place around 5:00 AM at Jainabari area of Tetuljhora union in the upazila.
The victim was identified as Hossain Ali, son of late Sadhu Mia, a resident of the same area in the upazila.
According to locals, Rakib Ahmed, younger brother of an alleged local terrorist Mosharraf Hossain Mosha, called the victim and demanded extortion from him. When the victim refused his proposal, Rakib along with his cohorts attacked him with iron rods and pipes, leaving him critically injured on the spot.
Hearing screams, his family members and locals rescued him from the spot and took him to Savar General Hospital for treatment.
Confirming the matter, Savar Tannery Outpost officer-in-charge said that a written complaint was lodged with the police station in this connection.
They were looking into the matter, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken against those found involved in this connection.
