Police recovered the decomposed bodies of two persons from a pond in Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj district, five days after they went missing.
The victims were identified as Riaz Uddin, 19, son of Badiuzzaman, and Hridoy, 18, son of Tota Sheikh. They were cousins.
Raiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident.
According to locals, the two went missing on Sunday night from the Baikunthapur Bazar area. That night, ransom messages demanding Tk 1 lakh were sent from Hridoy’s phone to multiple people in their village. The following day, the victims’ families filed a General Diary (GD).
On Thursday afternoon, some farmers spotted the sacks containing the bodies among water hyacinths under the bridge. Upon receiving the information, police recovered the partially decomposed bodies and sent them to Sirajganj 250-bed General Hospital morgue at night.
It is suspected that the victims were killed one or two days after they went missing.
OC Asaduzzaman said, ''An unidentified murder case has been filed by the victims' families. Senior police officials visited the scene on Friday morning. Police have already begun investigating the double murder case, interrogating several persons.''
The mystery behind the killings will be uncovered soon, the OC added.
