RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ, Mar 21: In order to reduce sufferings of people in transport communications, an initiative to address traffic jam has been taken by Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam in recent times.

Over 100 volunteer traffic assistants have been deployed at each crossing, Chourasta and important places in the upazila. That is why the traffic jam is a bit less nowadays.

Wearing yellow-parrot coloured uniform carrying logo of the upazila administration, these volunteers are working from morning to night.

Eid shopping is also gaining momentum in Rupganj Upazila of the district. Markets and shipping malls are getting customers increasingly. Now customers can move in a traffic jam free environment.

A recent visit found Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj District having hundreds of industrial factories, wholesale bazaars, hospitals, educational institutions and different key points. Lakhs of floating people are residing in the upazila for employment. And people come from different parts of the country for doing businesses here.

A volunteer Sohel Rana said, "Rupganj is a very important place. People of about 16 districts of the country's eastern region communicate with Dhaka over this upazila. So, usually they have to fall in traffic jam."

UNO Saiful said, "We have taken this initiative to ensure suffering free communications of people during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. These volunteers started to work from first Ramadan and will continue till Eid day."

"Most of them are students of school, college and university. We hope this year people will get rid of traffic jam," the UNO maintained.
