JASHORE, Mar 21: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a young man to life-term imprisonment for violating a schoolgirl in Abhaynagar Upazila in 2020.
District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Golam Kabir handed down the verdict.
The condemned convict is Shamim Hasan alias Shamimul Islam, a resident of Bashuria Village in Abhaynagar Upazila of the district.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000, and in default, he has to suffer three more months in jail.
Public Prosecutor of the court Abdul Latif confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, Shamim violated the victim on the pretext of sharing videos in Abhaynagar Upazila on August 18, 2020.
Later on, she disclosed the matter to her family members, and eventually, lodged a complaint with Abhaynagar Police Station in this regard.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court.
Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Thursday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
