RAJSHAHI, Mar 21: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested a young man for killing his mother-in-law in Bagha Upazila of the district.
The arrested is Shakil Ahmed alias Tasikul, 23.
RAB-5 sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Hedayetpara area of the upazila at around 12 am on Friday and arrested him.
It was known that Shakil got married with Monika Khatun, daughter of Rehena Khatun, in 2023. Since their marriage, Shakil had been physically and mentally abusing Monika. At one stage, Monika went to her mother's house which made him angry.
As a sequel to it, he strangled and hacked his mother-in-law Rehena to death with a sharp weapon last year, and then, dumped her body in a pond.
Following the incident, a murder case was filed against Shakil, and he had been on the run since then.
