Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) formed a five-member 'Coordination Committee on Reforms' for submitting proposals to National Consensus Commission, facilitating ongoing discussions about state reforms with various stakeholders.

Sarowar Tushar has been appointed as committee’s coordinator, with Monira Sharmin, Javed Rasin, Saleh Uddin Sifat and Arman Hossain joining as members.

The formation of the committee, approved by NCP convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhter Hossen, was confirmed in a party press release on Wednesday (March 19).

The committee’s primary responsibility will be to act as a liaison between the National Consensus Commission, which is currently spearheading the national reforms and political parties and other entities. As the Commission moves towards finalising various reforms, the Coordination Committee is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring that the party’s views are adequately represented.

The National Consensus Commission, headed by interim government's chief advisor Muhammad Yunus, will kick off discussions with political parties on Thursday. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is slated to be the first to engage in these talks.

The Commission has been tasked with building a national consensus for reform and has already received feedback from 15 political parties on recommendations from a range of reform bodies, including the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral System Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.

These reforms aim to address the country’s pressing governance and institutional challenges, with the Commission inviting parties to submit specific feedback on the proposed reforms.

The initial phase of consultations will focus on key recommendations from these various reform commissions. The ongoing dialogue is expected to shape the future of the country’s political landscape.
