Students of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute have been staging a demonstration by blocking roads and railways in the city demanding six-point demand, including to cancel the 30 percent promotion quota for craft instructors.

They assembled at the city's Gate no-2 road and Sholshahar railway line and blocked these around 1:00 PM.
Train passengers and pedestrians suffered a lot due to the blockade imposed by the students.

Being informed, the law enforceres rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Later, the students withdrew the blockade after getting assurance from the law-enforcers around 2:30 PM.
The agitators threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not met soon.

Their six point demands are-- The educational qualification for the post of Junior Instructor (Tech) must be compulsory 'Diploma Engineering', educated manpower should be appointed in technical education in all the technical posts of the country including craft instructors, technical (for polytechnic institute students) engineering universities should be established in all divisional cities, in order to increase technical education, the opportunity to apply for the job of diploma engineers in the post of primary school teacher should be implemented, the minimum pay scale should be fixed in the private sector for diploma engineers.

Chittagong Polytechnic Institute Principal engineer M Yasin said that they were in favor of accepting the reasonable demands of the students.
