At least 13 people were injured in a factional clash between two groups of BNP centering iftar mahfil in Chattogram's Raozan upazila on Wednesday.
The clash incident took place around 7:00 PM at Nowajispur area in the upazila.
Among the injured are local BNP leader Nurul Humayun, 28, M Rifat, 27, Forkan Shikder, 44, and Jahangir Alam.
According to locals, the supporters of BNP central organizing secretary and advisor to BNP Chairperson Golam Akbar Khandakar organised a iftar gathering at Nowajispur Madan Chowdhury Mosque. A group of 20 to 25 persons, loyal to BNP leader Gias Uddin Kader Chowdhury, allegedly carried out an attack on the supporters of Golam Akbar Khandakar with lethal weapons and fired bullets riding on motorcycles.
The two groups, at one stage, swooped on each other with locally made sharp weapons, leaving 13 people of the both groups injured.
Several motorcycles were set on fire during the clash.
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot, said Raozan Police Station officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin.
Police were looking into the matter, the OC added.
