Police took to custody a fifth-grade boy over allegedly rape attempt of a four-year-old girl in Jashore sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The victim's father filed a case against the accused boy with Kotwali Model Police Station in this regard.
According to case file, Victim's family members went out for work in the morning. After returning home for lunch, victim's father found their neighbour's son attempting to rape his daughter tying her legs.
He immediately rescued his daughter and tried to apprehend the boy but failed.
Meanwhile, some students from Jashore Govt MM College and Zilla School went to the spot and tried to apprehend him.
Police took the boy to station around 4 PM.
Agitated students also made several attempts to snatch and assault the child, who was in custody.
When on-duty police officers tried to control the situation, some protesters chased a constable and attacked him.
Kotwali Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Babul Hossain said that a case has been filed on charges of attempting rape.
Legal measures will be taken upon considering his age, added the OC.
