The High Court (HC) on Wednesday acquitted former state minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar in a case over recovery of arms from his Gulshan house around 21 years back, in which he was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by the lower court earlier.

The HC bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasrin Akter passed the order on Wednesday after disposing of a rule issued by it earlier in this regard.

Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, counsel for Babar, told reporters that his client has acquitted from all the cases filed against him following the High Court order.

According to the case statement, law enforcers had recovered 'illegal arms and several rounds of bullets from his bedroom' at his Gulshan residence on May 28, 2007. On June 3, a case accusing him was filed with Gulshan Police Station.
