MYMENSINGH, Mar 19: A section of scientists, officials and residents of the area on Tuesday protested for the second day by locking the office of Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, the Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agricultural (BINA) in Mymensingh.
During that time, the protesters chanted various slogans demanding the removal of the Director General and warned of stringent movement in future if their demands are not met.
The scientists, officials and nearby residents of BINA have organized protest processions locking the doors of BINA building adjacent to the Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier, the protesters had observed a similar programme on Monday as well.
Chief Scientific Officers (CSO) Dr Mahbubul Alam Tarafdar and Dr Reza Mohammad Emon, agriculturists Md Abdur Rashid and Mohammad Farhad Hossain also spoke at the event.
The speakers said the DG is accused of being involved in various controversial activities including leading procession against the students and mass people on August 4 last year, finalizing promotions of 27 Chhatra League leaders despite the changed context, delaying the implementation of the board of directors' decision to grant seniority to the deprived and running away from office.
DG Dr Abul Kalam Azad was accused of hiring 47 people in 13 posts in 2024 in collusion with the Ministry and a senior scientific officer of his office when he was the Director (Admin) of the BINA.
