The government of Bangladesh has imposed a 58-day fishing ban in the country's maritime zones. From April 15 to June 11, fishing of any species will be prohibited for all types of fishing vessels.
This ban was announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Wednesday (March 19).
In the notification, signed by Deputy Secretary HM Khalid Iftekhar on behalf of the President, it is stated that the government has prohibited all types of fishing vessels from catching any species in Bangladesh's maritime zones from April 15 to June 11. The ban is aimed at ensuring proper breeding, production, and conservation of marine fish resources, as well as promoting sustainable fishing practices.
The notification also states that, under the authority granted by Sub-rule (1), Clause (k) of Rule 3 of the Marine Fisheries Regulations, 2023, the government has annually declared this 58-day fishing ban from April 15 to June 11 to protect marine fish populations and support sustainable fishing in Bangladesh's waters.
