A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced a man named Ziaur Rahman, 35, to death for raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl in Sutarpara union under Dohar Upazila in Keraniganj.
Besides, it imposed a fine of Tk 200,000 on the convict.
Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 delivered the verdict in the morning. The tribunal directed the Dhaka District Magistrate to sell the movable and immovable properties of the convict, collect the fine amount and give it to the victim's family.
State prosecutor Ershad Alam confirmed the sentence. As the accused is absconding, the court has issued an arrest warrant against him.
According to case documents, the incident took place on 21 October, 2018, at 9:00am when the girl went to a vegetable field near her home.
