Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain stated that the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Ministry has not halted the issuance of Umrah visas for Bangladeshi pilgrims. Instead, Bangladeshi agency representatives have been advised to coordinate with Saudi Umrah agencies, providing valid air tickets and hotel booking slips.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Dr Khalid said the Saudi ambassador in Dhaka had confirmed this to the Religious Affairs Secretary. The ambassador also advised Bangladeshi agencies to contact the Hajj and Umrah Ministry through Saudi Umrah companies or agents with all necessary flight and accommodation documents.
Referring to recent concerns about Umrah visa issues, Dr Khalid acknowledged the initial reports of visa restrictions for Bangladeshi passengers. In response, a verbal request and a DO letter were sent to the Saudi ambassador in Dhaka, urging the continuation of the visa issuance process.
He further stated that the Bangladesh Hajj Counsellor in Jeddah has maintained ongoing communication with officials of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to ensure that Umrah pilgrims with valid airline tickets can perform their pilgrimage during Ramadan.
Addressing ticket refunds, Dr Khalid mentioned that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is refunding money to pilgrims unable to secure visas as per the rules. Additionally, requests have been made to Saudi airlines and other carriers to refund ticket costs for passengers affected by visa complications.
