A court in Dhaka has ordered the freezing of 163 bank accounts of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's former press secretary Nayeemul Islam Khan and four members of his family over allegations of corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Tuesday acting on a petition, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The other four are - Nayeemul's wife Nasima Khan Monty, daughters Labiba Nayeem Khan, Julika Nayeem Khan and Adiva Nayeem Khan.
According to ACC sources, a total of Tk 6.25 crore was found in these accounts.
Earlier, ACC Deputy Director Afroza Haque Khan filed an application in the court seeking an order to seize bank accounts of 163 bank accounts linked to Nayeemul Islam Khan and his family members in order to probe a case over alleged accumulation of illegal wealth.
In its plea, she said the ACC is probing allegations of making suspicious transactions of Tk765 crore through those 163 bank accounts. The amount was earned beyond known source of income, money laundering, and amassing illegal wealth.
