BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Tuesday said announcement of 13th election schedule will help the Interim Government to handed over power with honour.
He made the remark at the 14th death anniversary of BNP's former Secretary General, late Khandaker Delwar Hossain organized by Khandaker Delwar Hossain Smriti Foundation at the National Press Club.
He said to the Interim Government, "You should announce the date of the election soon. Then the people will become election-oriented. Only announcement of roadmap of the 13th General Election can foil all conspiracies of the ousted Awami League government."
Mosharraf has reminded that the interim government had promised to restore the rights of the people as soon as it came to power.
He said, "We understand the rights of the people as the right to vote."
"For the last 16 years, people did not get the right to vote. Now the Interim Government tries to delay election in the name of different demands. Those dictators have fled, but they are still involved in conspiracies and are conspiring in various forms," Mosharraf said.
He said, "I want to say to the Interim Government to shun any more excuses, announce the national election schedule immediately. It will helps you to handed over power with honour."
Mosharraf said the movement that the people of the country were carrying out against Sheikh Hasina's government for the past 16 years is the final result of July-August 2024.
Remembering the former Secretary General of BNP, the late Khandaker Delwar Hossain, he said, Delwar Hossain was a sacrificing, nationalist, and patriotic leader. He was the Chief Whip for four times.
"He [Delwar] once said to me, we do politics to strengthen the nationalist power of Bangladesh and to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country. We do not do politics for any position or title," said Mosharraf.
"Delwar Hossain played a very courageous role during the party's crisis. After one-eleven, when the Secretary General who had been there for 11 years was made a reformist to silence our party.
At that time, we were in prison. If the party is divided into two like this, how will it be saved? The late Khandaker Delwar Hossain took over the responsibility of the Secretary General with great courage.
There have been many General Secretaries in our party. But during one of the worst times of this party, Khandaker Delwar Hossain served as the party's Secretary General and Chairman.
