Under the banner of Anti-Corruption Citizens and Students' Society, people from various walks of life including agriculturists and students on Tuesday demanded to stop all forms of corruption at the Directorate of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at Khamarbari in Dhaka.

At a human chain formed in front of the Khamarbari in Farmgate, they made the demand.

The organizers said that DAE Deputy Director Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Rashid was transferred on charges of transfer trading.

After the transfer notification, Mahbubur Rashid's followers created chaos by locking the gate of the Khamarbari, blocking roads with outsiders, and holding press conferences.

Those involved in creating unrest in agriculture sector, including Mahbubur Rashid and BCS (Agriculture) Association member secretary Rezaul Islam Mukul, also Additional DD of Habiganj, should be brought under the law, they demanded.

The agriculturalists alleged that after August 5, three officials named Rezaul Islam Mukul, Mahbubur Rashid and AKM Hasibul Hasan have stolen crores of taka through transfer and promotion business by defaming the BNP. Now, after the Ministry of Agriculture took anti-corruption steps, the syndicate of controversial officials' is creating instability in a planned manner to put the government in trouble.

The human chain demanded that the government funds allocated for farmers be used properly.

Agriculturalist Abdur Rahman said that where farmers wait for government assistance, these corrupt officials are robbing them of their due rights. If the government wants to sustain the agricultural sector, the corrupt officials of the DAE must be removed quickly.

Anisur Rahman, an agriculturalist, said that after the transfer of a corrupt official, some officials have been creating chaos in the Khamarbari houses since last Thursday. They have caused trouble to fasting people and patients by blocking roads. The Khamarbari has been paralyzed by creating panic. However, no action has been taken against those officials who created anarchy.

Such incidents have not happened in agriculture in the past. If punishment is not given this time, such incidents may happen again, he claimed.

Last Thursday, the ministry issued a notification transferring DAE's Deputy Director (Admin and Finance) Dr. Mahbubur Rashid to the post of DD at Baradi Horticulture Center in Meherpur. Mahbubur Rashid was replaced by DD (Import) of the Plant Quarantine Wing Md. Muradul Hasan.

Immediate after the transfer notification was issued, Mahbubur Rashid's followers created chaos by locking the gate of the farm, blocking the road with outsiders, and holding press conferences.

There are allegations that the followers of Mahbubur Rashid and Mukul, who are known to be pro-BNP officials, have led various incidents in Khamarbari after the mass uprising.
