Harassment by bus helpers must be stopped

Dear Sir

Local buses are one of the main modes of transportation for reaching offices, courts, and workplaces every day. However, the misconduct and careless attitude of bus helpers have added to the struggles during our journeys. In many cases, the helpers demand extra fare, carry more passengers than required, misbehave with passengers, and fail to provide seating space.

Some helpers use rude language towards young passengers, creating a bitter experience throughout the journey. Often, when a passenger requests to get off at their destination, the helpers neglect to stop at the correct time. Furthermore, they fail to assist passengers in getting off at the right destination. Recently, a female student from Jagannath University accused a helper of the Victor Classic bus of inappropriately touching her, which marked the peak of their indecency.

Although this issue has been ongoing for a long time, we still haven't found an effective solution. This is a serious problem, and the authorities concerned should ensure discipline in bus operations and the utmost safety of passengers. Specifically, regular counseling and awareness programs for bus helpers are necessary to ensure they provide service with proper decorum. If they fail, strict disciplinary actions should be taken against them.
