Taskin Ahmed endured a disastrous outing with the ball as Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a 65-run defeat against Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League on Tuesday at BKSP.
The Bangladesh pacer conceded a staggering 107 runs in his 10-over spell, making it the most expensive bowling performance in the history of List 'A' cricket in the country.
With this forgettable display, Taskin overtook the previous unwanted records held by Iqbal Hossain Emon and Shahadat Hossain, both of whom had conceded 104 runs in an innings. His name now sits at 11th in the list of most expensive List 'A' bowling performances globally, with Dutch bowler Bas de Leede leading the chart conceding 115 runs against Australia in the 2023 World Cup.
Taskin's generosity with the ball allowed Gazi Group to pile up a formidable total of 336 for five led by a captain's knock from Anamul Haque Bijoy, who hammered an unbeaten 149 off 143 balls. His innings was complemented by opener Sadequr Rahman's 60 and Tofail Khan's blistering 62 off just 29 deliveries.
Chasing 337, Mohammedan's batters failed to mount a serious challenge despite a few promising starts. Skipper Tamim Iqbal scored a 34-ball 48. Opener Rony Talukder top-scored with 74 off 90 balls, while Mushfiqur Rahim added 49 off 46, but the middle and lower order crumbled under pressure. Eventually, Mohammedan was bundled out for 271 handing Gazi Group a comprehensive victory.
