Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have expelled 289 students from the institution temporarily for attack on protesters during the July uprising last year.
Nine teachers have also been suspended on charge of instigating them for attack.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan came up with the information around 3AM on Tuesday after a university syndicate meeting that was held on Monday (March 17).
Prof Kamrul Ahsan said, "A total of 289 BCL leaders and activists were expelled over their alleged involvement in the attacks on JU students during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, happened between July 15 to August 5. Besides, an investigation committee has been formed. Of the expelled students, the certificates of those whose studentship has ended, will be postponed, the results of those who have took part in exams and viva, will be postponed, and regular students will be temporarily expelled."

The VC added, a structured committee has been formed to collect evidence against some other teachers who were claimed to be involved in the attacks.
Meanwhile, another decision to cancel pension benefits of the university's the then Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Nurul Alam and Registrar Abu Hasan has been taken as they have retired.
