The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three separate cases against former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur Chowdhury, his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, and their daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury on charges of acquiring assets 'out of known sources of income'.

ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter on Sunday at a press briefing at ACC headquarters in Dhaka's Segunbagicha.

Earlier, the ACC had filed its first case against SK Sur, his wife and daughter on December 23, 2024, for not submitting the asset declaration within the stipulated time. Then, on January 14, the ACC arrested SK Sur from the Segunbagicha area of the capital. He was sent to jail on the same day.

The ACC has filed the new case against SK Sur over suspicious bank transactions in the names of his wife and daughter by abusing power and corruption when he was a government employee.

According to the ACC, SK Sur concealed the nature, source, location, and ownership of the illegal assets by withdrawing money acquired through corruption with various processes. He has acquired assets worth Tk 5.96 crore disproportionate to his known income, including Tk 1.99 crore, 1.69 US dollars, 55,000 Euros and 1,005.4 grams of gold jewelry.

In the case filed against SK Sur's wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, the ACC alleged that she acquired unknown assets worth Tk 4.10 crore through suspicious transactions in bank accounts with her husband's abuse of power and illegal cooperation.

The complaint filed by daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury stated that she has made illegal transactions worth Tk 74 lakh in bank accounts by taking refuge in corruption through mutual cooperation. She has acquired wealth through dishonest means. SK Sur has been named as an accused in this case.
