After a long wait, the country's longest newly built Jamuna Rail Bridge built over the Jamuna River will finally be inaugurated on Tuesday (March 18).

Trains will cross the Jamuna Rail Bridge within three and a half minutes on this day. This will make rail communication between Dhaka and North Bengal easier. Rail passengers are happy with the inauguration of this double-lane bridge.
However, even though it is a double-lane bridge, passengers will not get the full benefits of the bridge immediately as the single lane is currently in operation.

Admitting this, the authorities say that a double-lane railway line will be built through a new project. As a result, new horizons in communication, trade and economy will be opened.

The double-lane bridge, built on 50 pillars and 49 spans with state-of-the-art steel technology, is a testament to the potential progress of Bangladesh with a promise of 100 years of durability. The Railways Department has made all preparations for the inauguration.

Railways Ministry Secretary Fahimul Islam will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the bridge. As part of the program, guests and concerned persons will cross the Jamuna Rail Bridge on the inaugural train from Ibrahimabad Station on the east side of the Jamuna Rail Bridge to Sayedabad Railway Station on the western edge of Sirajganj at 11:20 am. There, they will hold a press conference at Sayedabad Railway Station at 11:40 am. Later, they will return to the eastern end of Ibrahimabad Railway Station at 12 pm.

Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain said, "Trains will take less time to cross the Jamuna Rail Bridge than before. This will save time on both sides. We will have to wait longer to get the double lane facility."

Bangladesh Railway Chief Engineer Tanvirul Islam said that new technology has been used in the railway bridge, which will eliminate the need to paint the railway bridge later.

In this regard, Shahin Mia, Station Master of Ibrahimabad Railway Station, said that trains will be able to run at a speed of 120 kilometers over the bridge. However, from the day of inauguration, trains will run at a speed of 90 kilometers over the bridge in the first phase. This will take 3 and a half minutes. Earlier, it took 20 minutes for trains to cross the Jamuna Bridge.
