Elderly woman dies being hit by truck in city's Mirpur

An elderly woman died after being run over by a truck in the capital's Mirpur on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:30 am in front of house number 23 on Road No-5, Section 11, Mirpur.

The victim was identified as Halima Begum, 60, hailed from Surnakalkapur village under Mirzaganj upazila in Patuakhali.

The victim's daughter Jui Akter said that they currently live in a rented house in that area. In the morning, her mother was going to her brother's house in Pallabi, Mirpur. At that time, a speeding truck ran over her while she was crossing the road.

She was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

DMCH Hospital Police Camp Sub-Inspector (SI) Masud Alam said the body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
