A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Madan Municipality Mayor Md Abdul Hannan Talukder, his wife Khushno Chowdhury, and their three sons; Mujibul Hasan Khaled, Rezwanul Hasan Imon, and Abrar Hasan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Sunday (March 16) in response to a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Al Amin.
According to the petition, an investigation is underway against Abdul Hannan Talukder and his family members for alleged abuse of power, misappropriation of lease funds from local markets, irregularities in the tender process, and embezzlement of government development project funds. The funds were allegedly transferred to personal accounts, leading to the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income.
The petition further stated that credible intelligence reports suggest the accused individuals are attempting to flee the country, which could disrupt the ongoing investigation.
To ensure a fair probe and prevent possible money laundering, ACC requested the travel restriction, which the court approved.
This move is part of the ACC’s broader efforts to combat corruption and financial crimes in Bangladesh.
