A Narayanganj court has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment in the murder case of Sabbir Rahman at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.
Additionally, a fine of Tk 1 lakh has been imposed and in default of payment, two more years of rigorous imprisonment have been added.
Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court, Judge Mohammad Abu Shamim Azad, issued the verdict in presence of the accused on Sunday (March 16).
The convicted individuals are Mohammad Ashraful Islam, son of Ibrahim Molla from Rasulpur area under Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district, Anisur Rahman, son of late Abdul Hamid from the same area, and Mizanur Rahman, son of Ibrahim Ali.
In a separate charge within the same case, each of the convicted individuals was sentenced to five years of imprisonment, along with a fine of Tk 5,000 and in default of payment, an additional six months of imprisonment.
Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Mohammad Kaiyum Khan said that the three murderers and the victim, Mohammad Sabbir Rahman, had been working together as construction laborers for a long time. On November 20, 2021, after finishing their work for the day, Ashraful, Anis and Mizan conspired to murder Sabbir to steal his mobile phone.
He further explained that they strangled the victim using an iron rod and GI wire to suffocate him. They then dragged the body to another room on the same floor and covered it with a plain sheet.
Following the incident, the victim’s uncle filed a case and after the trial, the court delivered this verdict.
