A Khulna court has sentenced two drug dealers to life imprisonment in a drug case in Khulna.
Additionally, both of them were fined Tk 20,000 each and in case of non-payment, they will face another year in prison.
The court acquitted the other two defendants in the case as no evidence was found to support charges against them.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge (2nd Court) of Khulna, Judge Nila Kormokar, issued the verdict on Sunday (March 16).
The bench assistant of the court Tanvir Hasan Ivan confirmed the judgment.
The convicted drug traffickers are Soharabh Hossain, son of Kinaruddin from Ichapur village under Sharsa upazila in Jessore district and Farid Biswas, son of Yusuf Ali from Shankarapur village in the same upazila. The two convicted individuals remain absconding.
The acquitted individuals are Abdur Rahim and Abdullah Al Baki.
According to court sources, police came to know that a microbus would be transporting drugs from Sharsa to Dhaka. Acting on the tip-off, Dumuria Police set up a check post at 18 Mile at Chuknagar at around 2 PM. When the private car approached the checkpoint, police signaled them to stop. However, the suspects ignored police orders and tried to move forward. Police then surrounded the microbus, challenged them, and discovered 460 bottles of Phensedyls from the vehicle.
In connection with the incident, sub-inspector Hannan Sharif filed a case with Dumuria Police Station (Case No. 31).
The investigating officer SI Elias Fakir submitted the charge sheet against the four accused in the court.
