A retired army personnel was killed and three others were injured when a bus hit a van at Gournadi upazila in Barishal district.
The deceased was identified as Mojibor Molla, 70, son of late Keramat Ali from the Kotokasthal village in the upazila. He was a retired soldier in Bangladesh Army.
Gournadi Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Mohammad Bipul Hossain said that a bus heading towards Dhaka collided with a battery-operated passenger van from behind at Sauder Khal area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway at around 11:15 AM on Sunday, leaving Mojibor and three other passengers critically injured.
Later, locals rescued them and took to a nearby hospital, where on-duty doctor declared Mojibor dead.
Confirming the incidents, Gournadi Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Aminur Rahman said that immediately after the accident, the bus driver fled the scene.
He further said that the bus responsible for the accident and the van involved have been seized.
The body has been taken to police station and legal actions are ongoing in this regard, added the OC.
