A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the seizure of 12.6 bighas of land, along with a six-story building in Mirpur, belonging to Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan Munnu, the mastermind behind the medical and dental admission question paper leaks.
The confiscated properties, located in Singair, Manikganj are valued at approximately Tk 29.83 million.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order following a petition by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director K.M. Asaduzzaman.
According to the petition, Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan Munnu concealed assets worth Tk 2.98 million in his submitted wealth statement. Additionally, he illegally acquired properties worth Tk 22.02 million through undisclosed sources and attempted to legalize them by concealing their origins. A case was filed against him for providing false information, acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income, and attempting to transfer or legitimize the illegally obtained assets.
During the investigation, reliable sources indicated that the accused was attempting to sell or transfer his illicitly acquired properties, which could obstruct the ongoing probe and legal proceedings. The court deemed it essential to freeze the assets to ensure a fair trial.
This development marks a significant step in tackling corruption and organized crime in Bangladesh’s education sector.
