Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib has issued a travel ban on former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President and ex-MP of Kishoreganj-6, Nazmul Hasan Papon, and former MP of Kushtia-3, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, along with their family members.
The order was passed on Sunday (March 16) following a petition from Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director, Saiduzzaman.
According to ACC petition, an investigation is underway regarding allegations that Papon and his family members acquired significant undisclosed wealth both domestically and internationally, including in USA and Canada, through misappropriation of government and BCB funds.
The commission stated that there is credible intelligence indicating attempts to transfer assets abroad and flee the country, necessitating the travel restriction.
Similarly, Hanif is under investigation for alleged corruption involving extortion from river sand businesses, tender manipulation, recruitment fraud, and misappropriation of funds from development projects.
Reports suggest that he and his family have amassed substantial illicit wealth both in Bangladesh and abroad.
ACC argued that their potential departure could hinder the ongoing inquiry, justifying the travel ban.
The restrictions aim to ensure a thorough and unobstructed investigation into the allegations of corruption and financial misconduct.
