Bangladesh Railway urges passengers to buy tickets only from official sources

Bangladesh Railway authorities and the Railways Ministry have advised passengers to purchase tickets exclusively through the official app (Rail Service) or directly from railway counters to avoid fraud and harassment during the upcoming Eid journeys.

The Eid travel period, from March 24 to March 30, will allow passengers to buy a maximum of four tickets per ID, with the names of travel companions included. The same rule applies to tickets for the return journey, which spans from April 3 to April 9.

The Railway Ministry’s press release warned that tickets purchased from unauthorized sources could result in fraud. According to the guidelines, the person whose ID is used for ticket purchase must travel with the corresponding mobile phone and a valid ID card containing a photo. Only the ID holder and their listed companions are allowed to travel using the tickets.

The release emphasized that attempting to travel with a ticket purchased under someone else’s name will lead to legal consequences, in accordance with Bangladesh Railway regulations.

Passengers who encounter fraudulent activities or black-market ticket sales are urged to report incidents to law enforcement or Bangladesh Railway officials. They can also contact the Railway Police (RNP), Government Railway Police (GRP), or use Bangladesh Railway’s hotline at 131. Complaints will be kept confidential.
