A 13-year-old girl was raped reportedly by a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver at Rashidpur union in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on Friday.
The girl is undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital.
The accused, Lal Mia, is from Jamtali area of Sadar Upazila and has been living at his in-laws' house inTulshipur area for a long time.
Sumon Mia, the father of the victim, stated that, “My daughter was playing near home on Friday morning. At that time, the accused, Lal Mia, from the same area, lured her into a room and violated her.”
“The girl was unable to scream as her mouth was held shut. Some women from the neighbourhood noticed the situation and rescued the girl. Lal Mia somehow managed to flee from the spot," Suman added.
The victim then informed her family about the incident. Later, they admitted her to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Yahiya Al Mamun said, “We have received a complaint of attempting rape and police have already launched a drive to arrest the accused. We also visited the hospital to enquire about the victim's condition.”
The teenager's family and locals demanded exemplary punishment of the accused.
