An elderly man was arrested on charge of raping a three-year-old girl at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday night.
The detainee is Alkas Talukdar, 63.
Fakirhat Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzak Mir confirmed the detention on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the upazila.
According to police sources, On Wednesday afternoon, Alkas lured the child into his room with the promise of giving her sweets and then forcibly raped her. Initially, the family tried to hide the incident, but when the child's condition worsened, they took her to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex on Friday for treatment. Upon learning of the incident, police rushed to the health complex.
The victim's mother filed a rape case against Alkas Talukdar on Friday night. Police arrested the accused the same night.
The hospital's medical officer Dr Fatema Binte Azad said that Injuries were found on the child's genital area. She has been referred to the OCC Centre at Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
