3 held over kidnapping, demanding ransom in Savar

Police arrested three individuals, including a woman, in charge of demanding ransom after kidnapiing a Dubai expatriate in Dhaka's Savar upazila on Saturday.

Police also rescued the victim, Mansur Alam, originally from Chheshuria village in Bashkhali, Chattogram, and currently resides in a rented house at Konabari upazila of Gazipur.
Meanwhile, the arrested individuals are Maruf Hossain, 34, his brother Arif Hossain, 28, and Maruf's wife Lovely Akter, 29, all residents of Nama Genda in Savar.

The victim, Mansur Alam, is originally from Chheshuria village in Bashkhali, Chattogram, and currently resides in a rented house in Konabari, Gazipur.

According to police reports, Lovely Akhter became acquainted with Mansur Alam while they were working under the same sponsor in Dubai, UAE.

Lovely borrowed 65,000 taka from Mansur and returned to Bangladesh about nine months ago. When Mansur came back to the country on 26 January, he contacted Lovely to recover his money. Mansur went to the Bank Town area of Savar on 12 March to collect the owed money, where Maruf and Arif forcibly took him to a house in Nama Genda Mahalla on a motorcycle.

The kidnappers also robbed 72,000 taka from him. They then, tortured him and demanded a ransom of 350,000 taka from his family members, threatening to kill Mansur if anyone was informed about the incident.

Juwel Mia, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, confirmed the information and stated that,''The victim's family filed a written complaint; police made an operation with the assistance of information technology. The operation led to the rescue of the expatriate from Nama Genda Mahalla and the arrest of the three kidnappers.''
