A daylong Vitamin A Plus campaign began on Saturday, aiming to provide essential nutrition to children across Bangladesh.
The campaign began at 8AM nationawide which will continue till 4PM.
As part of the initiative, children aged 6-11 months will receive blue Vitamin A capsules, while those aged 12-59 months will be given red capsules.
With the slogan "Feed Vitamin A, Reduce the Risk of Child Mortality," the campaign started across all districts, upazilas and unions to ensure maximum coverage.
Not only domestically, but Bangladesh has also been participating as a key member in the Global Nutrition Forum. After the country's independence, the incidence of night blindness due to malnutrition among children was 4.10%. In 1974, a program to prevent night blindness was initiated and children started receiving vitamin 'A' capsules. Subsequently, continuous administration of vitamin 'A' capsules has resulted in almost no cases of night blindness due to vitamin 'A' deficiency among children today.
This year, the government targets distributing Vitamin A capsules to 2.26 crore children through 1,20,000 EPI centers nationwide, reinforcing efforts to combat vitamin deficiencies and support child health.
