NATORE, Mar 14: Abdur Rashid, Singra Upazila Correspondent of The Daily Samakal, was released on bail on Thursday. Md Sarwar Jahan, Senior Judicial Magistrate-Natore, granted his bail after a hearing.
Mukhter Hossain, Lawyer of the reporter, said, Abdur Rashid wanted some data about Jalmahal to Singra UNO office according to the law of Information Rights; but following this, the authorities arrested him by making a drama in the name of Devil Hunt Operation; and after arresting, he was shown as unknown accused in a fighting case.
In protest of the incident, journalists in the district came out on the road for movement. Over hundred journalists held demonstration and sit-in programme in front of the DC and the SP office compounds at 10am. After this, on Thursday noon, victim Abdur Rashid was taken to the Natore court from Singra Police Station (PS).
During this time, the angry journalists began to chant various slogans demanding the removal of UNO, OC and administrative officer of the Singra Upazila and claimed withdrawal of the false case.
