NATORE, Mar 13: District Friendly Food Committee approved 83 dealers in four upazilas of the district in order to give food assistance to helpless families.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the friendly food committee in the deputy commissioner (DC) office's conference room in the district town on Tuesday with DC Asma Shahin in the chair.
Before this, an enlistment of the dealers was finalised by Associate Upazila Committee through lottery system. They included 26 from Natore Sadar Upazila, 23 from Lalpur, 22 from Baraigram, and 12 from Naldanga Upazila.
Among 359 businessmen applied for the dealership, 83 were selected through lottery.
Under this programme, the helpless families can buy 30 kilogram (kg) rice at Tk 15 per kg from approved dealers. The rice will be sold in March, April, September, October and November only.
Among others, Md Abul Hyat, Additional DC (Gen), Md Rezaul Haque Khondoker, District Food Controller, and Farazi Ahmed Rafiq Babon, President of Natore Press Club were present at the meeting.
