Orion Group chair's 31 bank accounts frozen, 43 acres of land seized

Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Court, Zakir Hossain Galib, on Tuesday (March 10) issued an order to freeze 31 bank accounts and seize 43 acres of land, along with a flat, belonging to Obaidul Karim, the Chairman of Orion Group. The order was given in response to two separate applications filed by Rashidul Islam, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to ACC's application, Obaidul Karim's 31 bank accounts contain approximately 20.27 crore Taka and 6,575 US dollars. In addition, 43 acres of land, valued at 2.91 crore taka and a flat worth 96 lakh taka have been seized. The assets were frozen to prevent the sale or transfer of properties that may obstruct the recovery of assets by the government, should the individual be convicted.
