A Chattogram WASA transmission pipeline was damaged in the Sagarika area during the installation of underground power cables, causing a severe water crisis across vast areas of the city over the past two days.

Water supply has been completely cut off in Agrabad, Halishahar, CDA, Dewanhat, and Kadamtali, leaving thousands of residents struggling. WASA officials estimate that repairs may take another two days, potentially prolonging the crisis until Wednesday.

The damage occurred during the implementation of the "Expansion and Strengthening of Chattogram's Power Transmission System" project, managed by Power Grid Bangladesh PLC. WASA issued a public notice listing affected areas, including Halishahar Elevated Tank, Boropol, Chhotopol, Gosaildanga, and other nearby neighbourhoods.

This is not the first incident of its kind. On 17 February, a 48-inch pipeline was damaged near Oxygen-Kuwaish Road during culvert construction, disrupting water supply for up to a week in parts of the city.
