The construction of the MRT Line 1 will proceed in close coordination with the Purbachal Expressway to ensure smooth integration and uninterrupted traffic flow.

This collaboration will involve Rajuk, the 24 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army, and the consulting firm handling the Purbachal Expressway project.

Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line 1) Director Md Abul Kashem Bhuiyan signed a press release in this regard on Monday.

The notification highlighted that multiple small and large design changes have been made to align the metro rail project with the ongoing expressway work.

To facilitate seamless connectivity with the Purbachal New Town and ensure a continuous traffic flow, various meetings have been held among Rajuk, DMTCL, the Army and the consulting firm responsible for the expressway project.

As part of the MRT Line 1 development, an 11-meter-wide section along the central island of the Kuril-Purbachal Link Road will be blocked. However, three lanes on each side will remain operational to prevent traffic disruption.

Key decisions made to ensure the integrated development of both projects include:

A review of the intersection design involving MRT Line 1, the Dhaka Bypass Road Project, and the Kuril-Purbachal Link Road development.Construction of a temporary 7,700 square meter metal platform near the Joar Sahara Station, which will be dismantled upon project completion.Rajuk’s approval for the expansion of the Boalia River bridge and the construction of a long-span steel truss bridge at the Balu Bridge.Utilization of land along the 300 Feet Road in Purbachal New Town for the entry and exit pathways of the elevated station.Minimizing any damage to the expressway with necessary restoration steps.Use of land along the 300 Feet Road for the transition area from the underground to the elevated section of MRT Line 1.The press release emphasized that there has been no lack of coordination throughout the project's execution, with all concerned agencies working together to ensure efficient progress.
